About us

We are a 5th grade class at a school in New York City. We are just beginning to learn about blogging, and are looking forward to being in touch with people from around the country and world. Our teacher signed us up for the edublogs blogging challenge, and we can’t wait to get started!

We only have 12 students in our class – with one more who will be joining us in January when he comes back from a semester in Russia. We have a small, slightly odd shaped classroom (we’ll post pics so you can see) but we think it has character! This year our teacher ordered some yoga balls and standing desks for us to try out. We LOVE the yoga balls, and are still getting used to the standing desks. There are just two of them so we can choose to sit at the regular table or the standing one to try it out.

When we get going with blogging, we will have the opportunity to earn our blogging license – and get our own blog! We can’t wait to find out what the requirements will be to achieve the blogging license.

    G’day 5A,
Thanks for joining the student blogging challenge. I hope you enjoy the activities and make new friends around the world. The first four sets of challenges have been published at http://studentchallenge.edublogs.org

    Dear 5A,

I have really enjoyed looking at your class blog. I bet you are excited about earning your blogging licenses!

We have a small class too, 16 students in grades 2 and 3. Are all the classes in your school small?

Your standing desks sound very interesting. I have a few students who I think would really like using them.

I look forward to following your blog,

    Mrs. W

I am currently compiling a list of the Top 100 Classroom Blogs, and I would like to include your site on my list. I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions about you and your blog so I can include more information in my article (I couldn’t find your contact information) Please e-mail me (alexisbrett@gmail.com) and include the title of your blog in the e-mail, thanks!

    Hi Tech-Taters

What a great blog! We were so excited to get some comments from your class and love that you have added us to your blogroll. We added you too! We were wondering how you found our site? We were very pleased about your writing and the first New Yorkers on our site.

We are also in Year 5 and there are 23 children in this class. We are learning about rainforests at the moment and only have 2 weeks left of the school year.

Hope to hear from you soon

    Hi Tech-Taters.

I teach a Year 6 class in Rouse Hill, NSW, Australia. We have just started a class blog and we have added your blog to follow and comment on. We would love for you to visit our blog at http://mrlindsay.edublogs.org and see what we are doing and leave comments for us.

We hope to hear from you soon and start a friendship between our class and yours.

  6. Hi Tech-Taters and Ms Gartside
I came across your blog via Ms Gartside’s Blogging License info on ‘ Integrating Technology in the Primary Classroom’ blog.

I guess you are still getting organised for the Fall 2011 semester. Hope your new school year blog is up and running soo. Katy – I just love your idea of a Blogging License. I hope it will be Ok with you if I adapt your idea to fit with my Year 1 class? I’m not sure that any will actually get to the stage of having their own bloig … but want them to strive for it if they’re interested.

Come Down Under and visit our blog sometime too.

    Hi Jackie and Room 3,

We have just started school – coming to the end of our 2nd full week – so blogging hasn’t really got going yet. I think we are going to continue with this blog rather than starting over – seems like some people start over and some continue, but no-one I’ve heard from is really committed to either one. What do you do?

You should absolutely adapt the Blogging License idea for your Year 1′s! I’d be glad if you find it useful!

When my kids get going with blogging, I’ll definitely send them to your blog to visit. They will first be learning about commenting so I’ll be sending them soon.

    Thanks for your comment!
    Katy
