Today (24th March) we had our first IPW meeting! IPW (intergrated projects week) is a fun week at our school where we pick activities that we might want to do, and instead of just having a few hours where we might do that something that we picked, we have a whole week to do it. We sometimes have sleepovers, and marshmallows, and even if we don’t, everyone ends up having a great time. We always have two meetings in the weeks leading up to the actual IPW week, so that everyone is prepared for what we will do in the IPW. Usually we take a survey, and the survey shows all our different IPW options. Then we pick our top five, in order from the ones we would most love to get, to the ones we’d like to do but not our favorite choices. Even if you don’t always get your first choice, and you go to the meetings with a heavy heart, it always turns out well, and you end up hoping you get the same thing next year. And it turns out that right after that we have our spring break- a break from all that fun and exciting stuff. IPW is just beginning this year, and we can’t wait!

As you already probably know, our teacher Ms. G is awesome! She is also an Australian teaching in New York City (and has a kind of funny accent ) So, on Jan. 26 our whole class celebrated Australia Day! Australia Day is the day that the first settlement was made on the Australian island. Since there were too many prisoners in England, they would send them to Australia and they would be in prison there. On Australia Day we learned Aussie terms like snags (sausages), ankle biters (toddlers) and chewie (gum). We listened to Australian songs (We are Australia) and studied a famous Australian person in history. I studied Dorothea Mackellar, a famous Aussie poet. I am glad that we have an Australian teacher, and that we got to study and celebrate Australia Day! Australia sounds like a place I would definitely like to visit!

Today our class went out in the snow! We weren’t aloud to throw snow balls at each other, but we could throw snow at the walls. We also ate our snacks on the roof. There was so much snow that we could have finished a snow fort. We started building a snow fort but we had limited time so we didn’t get to finish. One of the other amusing things some of us did is eating snow. Also another awesome thing we did is jumping in the snow with all of our body.

A lot of us knew Mr Harris from older brothers and sisters, but to the rest us: this is all we knew about him: “He’s sooooo funny and nice!”, “Mr Harris coming?! Yay!” “He is really great!” And he was really awesome. Mr Harris used to teach at our school, and taught 4th grade with Ms. Gartside. He came to do two plays for us at the assembly. But he needed actors, so who did he chose… us! We did the two Native American tales: The turtle and the bear (kind of like the turtle and the hare) and how the birds got their feathers. The turtle and the bear was about a bear who was very full of himself. He thought he was the tallest, the strongest and the fastest. At first no one disagreed, but when he got to the part about being the fastest a little head popped out of the lake. It was a turtle, and the turtle said the SHE was the fastest. So they decided they should have a race and the turtle won! But after everyone had gone, she revealed that she had tricked bear. The bear was so angry that he had lost he went to sleep and didn’t wake up until spring. From this day on, bears still sleep during the winter, maybe so that they can forget their race with turtle. Turtle may not have been fast in her legs, but she was very fast in her mind. Everybody really liked it. How the birds got their feathers was about a time when birds had no feathers. The creator decided to help. He told them to send up a bird to get a the clothes. The buzzard was chosen. He flew up to the heavens, but could not decide which one clothes he wanted himself. He gave everyone else the others, thinking that the next one would be better, but ended up getting the worst! They were both really fun to act. We can’t find the pictures now but check our blog later to see them!

This morning I got out of bed and headed to my dresser to get dressed, but then I remembered, today is Pajama Day! And to add to the awesomeness, we didn’t even need to make our lunch because today was Robo pizza Friday, a day where we can order pizza for lunch, and the money that we pay goes to getting our robo team supplies and tickets to the places they need to go. A couple of years ago, they went to China! Everybody is happy!
here we all are in our pj's
